Town Centre Securities solar PV at the Urban Exchange
Town Centre Securities select GMI Energy to install nearly 200kWp of solar PV to the roof of the Urban Exchange in Manchester
Town Centre Securities
Back in 2012 GMI Energy installed a 50kWp solar PV array on the roof of the prestigious Urban Exchange development in Manchester, fitting 208 x REC240W panels in just one week. The system is specially designed for a flat membrane roof using a non-penetrating aluminium roof frame to lay the panels at the optimum angle to the sun.
The Urban Exchange houses key tenants for Town Centre Securities including Marks & Spencer, Go Outdoors, Aldi and Pure Gym. Following installation of the PV system the tenants will now benefit from a low carbon energy supply, helping to lower their CRC emissions liabilities. In addition, Town Centre Securities will receive a secure income for the next 25 years from the government Feed in Tariff scheme.
Two years later, Town Centre Securities, pleased with the yield from their system, decided to invest in a further 143.3kWp to bring the total system size to almost 200kWp, almost four times the size of the original install. With the new extension the system is expected to generate over around 158 MWh of clean electricity every year for the next 20 years, which combined from the yield on the existing system, will earn a generous income for Town Centre Securities.
