LED Lighting – Clarence Dock
GMI Energy completed an intelligent lighting solution at Town Centre Car Parks’ multi storey car park at Clarence Dock in Leeds. The new energy-efficient system comprises of 1206 solid state LEDs fitted with remote controls and PIR motion sensors that automatically switch on the lights as drivers enter the car park. The system was carefully designed by GMI Energy’s in-house experts using mapping techniques to work out the placement of emergency fittings and sensors.
The running costs of the new system are expected to be around 77% lower than the previous fluorescent system and in all the savings will result in a 2.2 year payback period. The quality of the light is also greatly improved with the LEDs, as can be seen in the before and after shots below. The intelligent lighting system at TCCP Clarence Dock is one aspect of energy improvements that GMI Energy have installed at the car park; in 2011 TCCP became the owner of the UK's largest roof mounted city centre solar PV system of the time, when GMI energy installed an innovative 128kW system that comprised of unusual cylindrical panels.
